Week 6
Day 1
Do you want to get well?
In the Bible
When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” John 5:6
1. Are you hanging on to pain, anger or blame? If so, which of those are you hanging on to?
2. How long have you been hanging on?
3. Who/what is the source of wellness?
In your life
1. What can you replace your negative thoughts and reactions with?
2. What specific things can you do to move forward in godly healing?
* You can be healthy, at peace and joyful in your life through Christ. A DivorceCare group can guide you in the right direction.
Day 2
When God seems far
In the Bible
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8
The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18
1. God is always with you. He does not move away from you; rather, it is you who may move away from Him. At what times do you feel farthest from God?
2. When are you most aware of His presence?
In your life
1. What comfort do you have in knowing that God is always there, even when you don’t feel His presence?
2. Why is it important to continue to pray, read God’s Words in the Bible, go to church and spend time with Him, even when you don’t feel like anything is getting better?*
* If you are taking these steps, then you truly are moving forward in healing. Spending time with God is more valuable for your life and future than you might imagine. Persevere and let Him be your strength, comfort and guide.
Day 3
A conduit of comfort
In the Bible
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 2 Corinthians 1:3–5
1. Name people whom God has provided as a comfort to you.
2. Name places where you have found God’s comfort. What else has been a source of comfort to you?
3. According to the passage above, God offers comfort to you, and what does He ask of you?
In your life
1. So many people around you need practical help, comfort, a listening ear, kind words, encouragement, affirmation, time or attention. Whom can you help? (Prayerfully consider your answer. Feel free to list several ideas, and ask God for help and guidance to follow through.)
Day 4
His promises to you
In the Bible
[God sent His Son Jesus] to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:2–3
1. Separation and divorce involve loss and grief. What losses have you experienced?
2. In the passage above, what does God promise for you?
In your life
1. Which promise in particular are you most looking forward to having fulfilled in your life?*
2. Write a prayer here, letting God know what you are thankful to Him for.
* In order to receive God’s promises, you must first receive His Son Jesus into your life. For information on what this means, visit The Foundation for Healing.
Day 5
Put your hope in God
In the Bible
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 43:5
We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
1. According to the verses above, what benefits are there for those who put their hope in the Lord?
2. According to Romans 15:13, how much hope will God give you?
In your life
1. What have you been hoping for?
2. Which, if any, of your hopes may need to be redirected?
3. Use the verses above as a guide for a prayer to God, seeking fresh hope in your life.
